I want to give a warm welcome to our new lifetime members who joined during Black Friday. Our family has certainly grown! Many of you are with us now for a lifetime and for our new members please read the following 2 articles.

The first one is the email we sent out last year after Black Friday. Short road map for Divi Den Pro & Lifetime members (2 min read). Worth a read because, it gives a good overview of how we work and what you can expect from us.

Next is the link to our story, which Elegant Themes (the makers of Divi Theme and the “mother-ship”) posted about us on their blog. The Divi Den Story (4 min read)

Sadly Freddie can’t live forever

I have designed Freddie longer than I planned, and we still have some Freddie designs currently in development. Really stunning Divi Person Modules with mind-bending animations. Look out for those next week. I really enjoyed designing Freddie and I struggled to find a new theme. I thought about doing Greta as she is quite awesome.

How she -on her own- at age 16 has created such a world-wide movement. The world really needs this. But every time I tried to design her, I felt all the flippy-spinney stuff, which I love to do, didn’t really suit her quite serious personality. So it was back to the drawing board.

Then something wonderful happened…

Tina Turner had her 80th birthday and I watched “Proud Mary” and it hit me. Yes! Tina is the icon I have been looking for. She has had a remarkable career and I find her pure energy quite inspiring.

Tina comes to South Africa

Growing up in South Africa was very hard. The apartheid government controlled everything. We were cut off from the world. We had sanctions and almost all artists boycotted South Africa. Rightly so, as apartheid was awful for everyone.

In 1994 Nelson Mandela became our first black leader and South Africa became full of hope. It was a great time in our country. I was 18 at the time and the whole world opened up to us. We won the world cup rugby and the whole country was on a high.

Big artists started coming to South Africa and we finally got a taste of the rest of world. Tina Turner was one of the first to come to South Africa in 1996. At the time I was 20 and broke. I could not find the money to buy a ticket. This was not to stop us and in Cape Town, we went to concert and sat on top of a train outside the stadium, so we could see the show. We saw her from the side and we couldn’t see the big screens she had. It felt like the whole of Cape Town was outside the stadium and the vibe was electric. People were shouting, “we love you Tina!” and dancing in the street. We got off the train and joined in on all the fun.

That was my first concert I ever went to and it left it’s mark. Her energy was infectious. When I opened my PC to start designing her, it just flowed out of me! I hope to have some of the first designs ready early 2020. Stay tuned!
